MAY DAY AWARDS 2023

Model Worker – Razali Bujang

(Nominated by the Advanced Manufacturing Employees’ Union)

Razali Bujang has been with NMB Singapore since 1996 and joined as a union member in the same period.  He is now a Specialist Technician attached to the Plant Maintenance Department.

Together with other active members, Razali had devoted much time in union activities ever since he became the union official of Advanced Manufacturing Employees’ Union (AMEU: previously known as Metal Industries Workers’ Union) since 2002.

And how does a young man get involved in something like that and for so long?  One could not help enquiring.

“Come to think of it, I only knew about trade union when I became a member in 1996.  I do not have much knowledge then. My interest in unionism grows and I feel a strong sense of responsibility towards the union, having been so actively involved over the last 21 years”, he shared.

Indeed, he promotes reskilling and upskilling to his colleagues and encourages them to take on training courses to improve their employability.  He has also taken the Certificate in Employment Relations to better serve his members.

Razali is known for his ability and willingness to mix with all levels of people in the Company.  Many see him as an understanding and approachable guy, whom they can confide in and consult over their problems.  He has initiated meetings with management to improve communication and working relationships and is committed to caring for his fellow workers and helping them meet the challenges of today’s digital world.

Razali finds his participation in employee and industrial relations an enriching and satisfying experience.  He cannot imagine himself retiring and feels he will go on working for the union for a long time to come.
